The capital embraces diversity and development and has been re-established as a cultural hub with excellent entertainment, Michelin starred restaurants and, known as Europe’s greenest city, it is the epitome of environmentally friendly urban living. In addition, it has other inviting characteristics, including a high concentration of science and research, a competitive pricing structure, an international population, a diverse pool of man-power and an encouraging response to business opportunities, making this city even more attractive for international event planners. This increasing popularity is evident in the soaring footfall, and in June 2015, 2,679,900 passengers took off and landed at Berlin’s Schonefeld and Tegel airports, representing a growth of 4.3%, compared to the same period the previous year.

In 2002, facts and figures about the MICE market in Berlin became available, and it is evident in 2015 that the meetings and convention business has realised solid growth in the last 13 years. By now an established congress and convention destination, Berlin saw 10 million visitors participating in meetings and conventions in 2012, an 8% increase compared to the previous year. The number of providers increased from 245 in 2002 to 346 in 2014, representing an increase of 41% and the number of major international events in the city reached 193 last year, ahead of Singapore (142), London (166), and Barcelona (182). Berlin came in third after Vienna and Paris as the most popular convention destination in the world according to the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA). The choice of exceptional meeting locations makes this city a front-runner in the MICE industry. From the historic aircraft hangar on the grounds of the former Tempelhof Airport that can accommodate 5,000 guests to the 3,500sqm Velodrom arena, with its innovative design and steel roof, offering a maximum capacity of 10,000 people, Berlin has so much to offer. Conference organisers and event planners have hosted memorable events in glass-walled communal spaces in galleries along the banks of the city’s River Spree, in spacious concert halls, in areas in front of the iconic Brandenburg Gate and in restored museums and churches throughout the city.

This new, multi-functional congress hall hosts events for up to 11,000 participants over three levels. The buildings unique exterior is the brainchild of Dresden based architect team, Code Unique. A glass-covered path joins the multi-function hall with Hall 7 of the Berliner Messe, creating adequate space for up to 18,000. Event bookings are already in for 2021, so the calendar for this popular centre is already filling up.

The beauty of Berlin doesn’t depend on the scenery or the climate like it does in other cities but in the actual city itself. Berlin is full of contrasts – you can find areas of peace and quiet and areas of non-stop activity – and there are a host of venues to suit any type of seminar or event. These exclusive locations, high-tech convention centres and highly specialised organisers help to sustain and cultivate the city’s prominent position within the MICE industry.

Why compromise when everything is possible in one city?
