North American Nickel Given Green Light

altNickel is one of the oldest known metals, with uses tracing back more than 5,000 years. It is a fundamental metal that is needed for every day applications, particularly in stainless steel. Nickel has corrosion-resistant properties that make it a vital component in various alloys and super alloys. Some common applications include household appliances, computers, cellular phones, vehicles, medical and heating devices as well as industrial, military, aerospace, marine and architectural applications.

North American Nickel is a Canadian junior mineral exploration company focused on advancing and developing high quality nickel-copper sulphide projects. The company’s key asset is its 100%-owned Maniitsoq project located in southwest Greenland. North American Nickel is listed on the TSX Venture exchange and is well funded with strong cornerstone investors.

The Maniitsoq property in Greenland is a camp-scale project comprising 3,601 km2 covering numerous high-grade nickel-copper sulphide occurrences. It is situated along the southwest coast of Greenland, which is pack-ice free year-round. There is high-grade nickel sulphide mineralisation (up to 7% Ni) at the Imiak Hill Complex, and there are exciting new intersections of mineralised norite (an igneous intrusive rock) at widely spaced regional targets.

Greenland is a democratic, pro-mining country with a transparent regulatory system, competitive mining tax regime and no land claims issues. The mild climate allows for year round mining and shipping of concentrate. The capital Nuuk has modern, well serviced container ports and European standard logistical support and coastal re-supply services.

North American Nickel is making good headway advancing the Maniitsoq property. The large belt of highly prospective norite is being investigated by Greenland government geologists as the aftermath of a giant meteorite impact 3 billion years ago. Around that time, Greenland was much closer to Canada’s Nain and Superior geological provinces, which host the giant Voisey’s Bay and Thompson nickel deposits in Labrador and Manitoba.

This year, North American Nickel is planning a multi-component exploration programme and is evaluating the costs and benefits of securing an operational hub at Seqi port, located at the southern boundary of the Maniitsoq property. The ice-free port is amendable to dock-and-load vessels of up to 60,000 tonnes.

North American Nickel’s vice president of exploration Patricia Tirschmann said during a January presentation at the Mineral Exploration Roundup conference in Vancouver that the company wants to better position itself in what it considers the next big nickel-copper-cobalt camp and considers itself fortunate to have two large shareholders backing it up: the Sentient Group and VMS Ventures, which own 41.2% and 22% of the shares.

North American Nickel aims to ensure exceptional shareholder return on investment by acquiring and pursuing top quality projects. Only the most up-to-date technologies are applied to the properties by its very experienced and successful exploration team. Property acquisitions have been focused on the abovementioned project opportunity in Greenland and in the world’s best known and most prolific nickel camps in Sudbury, Ontario.

The company will focus on exploring and evaluating the properties in its portfolio but will also seek strategic partnerships to advance certain properties. It will also consider acquiring or joint venturing new advanced projects deemed as prospective to host economic ore deposits. North American Nickel was recently given the Prospector and Developer of the Year Award for 2015 by the Government of Greenland.
