Introducing Scotland’s Low Carbon Innovation Hub

The Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation (ECCI) is a national hub for the knowledge, innovation and skills required to create a low carbon economy. Over the past year, ECCI has hosted 15,000 visitors and 300 events and conferences in our purpose-built, award-winning low carbon venue – the UK’s most sustainable historic building.

ECCI provides the place and space for business and public sector leaders and networks of investors and innovators to work together to deliver an inspiring future.

ECCI boasts a Board Room, conference rooms and breakout spaces; and high-end skills training, CPD and executive education rooms, complete with a public café and vehicle electric charging points, in a venue purpose designed to encourage collaboration and interaction between participants. The venue is within walking distance of Edinburgh’s central railway station, the Scottish Parliament, and a stone’s throw from the famous Royal Mile. alt

Investors and innovators will feel at home. ECCI hosts its own business incubation facilities, called the Ideas Lab, for pre‐commercial entrepreneurs with nine current members and recruitment kicking off again in the Summer. ECCI also hosts 16 innovative enterprises in our Deutsche Post-DHL Innovation Suite, and are home to over 70 Masters students from University of Edinburgh, creating a dynamic innovation environment that permeates the venue.

In support of innovation, ECCI has actively engaged over 1000 enterprises in recent years, providing intensive support to nearly 200, and helped them develop over 100 new products and services for use in global markets. ECCI-supported businesses have secured over £16m in investments recently.

In support of business investment, ECCI together with its funding partners helps project proponents to catalyse and shape effective plans for delivering “smart city” and “sustainable island” projects, culminating in investment plans for external investors. This involves building relationships with city authorities, enterprise agencies, financial institutions and tier 1 corporates to accelerate up to 15 large-scale low carbon projects, bringing in international expertise, supply chain support and academic know-how to help catalyse these transformative projects. alt

ECCI’s executive education and CPD courses on topics such as low carbon leadership, entrepreneurship, and low carbon policy and practice, are developed and delivered to a global market, particularly Asia and Latin America. ECCI hosts the Association of Carbon Professionals (ACP): http://www.carbonprofessional.org, which provides career accreditation to professionals around the world who are working in this space.

ECCI has a growing reputation as the “go to” place as a venue for meetings about investment, innovation, and skills and training in Scotland. It is successfully supporting businesses to engage in and contribute to Scotland’s radical energy agenda, as well as export this knowledge and know-how around the world. ECCI is at the forefront of supporting such innovation.
